Happy New Year, Operatoonists! Here’s your fave December opera!

Earlier this month I conducted a poll, asking you to identify the opera that best suits the month of December. Despite some of the traditional Christmas classical fare, La Bohème won the poll by a two-to-one margin.

So here’s a New Year‘s Eve/last day of December gift for all my readers. Rolando Villazon and Anna Netrebko singing, “O soave fanciulla” from, of course, Puccini‘s La Bohème.

  1. Ha! Theater and opera need more cool fans like you, Bill, howling to the rafters. I can’t say I know all my readers since a lot of them are lurkers. But you have to be one of the coolest and hip-est Operatoonists, hands down. Love you, kid!

Thanks, Gale! I was thinking of the first time I saw “Les Miserables.” It was in Schenectady, New York, believe it or not, when a then unknown Anthony Crivello took the stage. What a voice! What presence! He played Javert, and I swear that every time he stepped onto the stage, I felt him. When his name was announced during the curtain call, I cheered for him like I would any punk band. Many an audience member balked when I howled. Well, I just couldn’t help myself.
